ARCHAEOLOGIST position with CRGT in PDX

Position Overview:

This position will be functioning as a Cultural Resource Specialist, working with agency project environmental leads for fish and wildlife conservation projects, transmission system operations (Environmental Planning and Analysis), maintenance, and new construction activities.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional knowledge in the inventory, evaluation, protection and management of prehistoric and historic resources.

Position Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Independently conducts background research, field inventories (including subsurface testing) and generates reports that meet the expectations of various state historic preservation offices, tribal historic preservations offices and other consulting parties.
  • Balance and prioritize numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Evaluate cultural resources for eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places in accordance with regulations implementing the National Historic preservations Act, including development of documents for consultation with State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices and other interested parties.
  • Participate as a team member in preparing NEPA documents (i.e., drafting or reviewing relevant reports and sections of NEPA documents), identifying special cultural resource considerations and potential impacts.
  • May prepare and review cultural resource management’s plans and project plans, recommending specific actions needed for long term cultural resource protection, including priorities, costs and schedules.
  • Provide expertise on compliance with federal cultural resources laws, their associated regulations, utility and federal policies and guidelines, including Department of Energy (DOE) tribal policies and guidance.
  • Advises on compliance with relevant statutes including the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), the American Indian Religious Freedom Act (AIRFA) and NEPA.
  • Other comparable duties as may be assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Must possess a Bachelor degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or closely related field.
  • 5 years of more of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration or management.
  • At least 6 month of supervised field and analytic experience in Columbia River Basin archaeology.
    • A professional in prehistoric archaeology shall have at least one year of full-time professional experience in the study of archaeological resources of the prehistoric period.
    • A professional in historic archaeology shall have at least one year of full-time professional experience in the study of archaeological resources of the historic period.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge with section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and implementing regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.
  • Proven experience or familiarity with evaluating cultural resource effects of fish and wildlife conservation projects (e.g. habitat enhancement and restoration activities, irrigation screening, etc.) is desired but not required.
  • Proven knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
  • Familiarity with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and American Indian Religious Freedom Act (AIRFA) and NEPA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA)
  • Knowledge of transmission system infrastructure.
  • Exceptional writing skills required.
  • Must have the ability to transmit information effectively, to present & describe issues clearly & concisely.
  • Person must demonstrate ability to pay close attention to detail, be able to interface and communicate

with various professional personnel and management and maintain good client relations.

  • Knowledge and proficiency working with MS Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel and

Outlook.

Additional Requirements:

  • Personal Protection Equipment is required:
  • Possess White Hard Hat
  • Possess Valid State Drivers License
  • ASTM F2413-05, Class 75 EH rated footwear with over the ankle lace up and rigid sole and heel.
  • Become familiar with and follow the safety practices of the BPA Accident Prevention Manual.
  • Position requires to work in and around energized facilities.

Access Permit: Allows unescorted access for self and escort capabilities of a (Visitor) contractor allowing movement within energized facilities for the purpose of observation only.

Non-Electrical Worker Permit:  Allows unescorted access and movement for self and escort capabilities of a (Visitor) contractor on their performance of predefined work not effecting the electrical operation of the power system.

  • Possess a White hard hat
  • Possess a Valid State Drivers License
  • Possess appropriate footwear, ASTM F2413-05, Class 75 EH rated footwear with over the

ankle lace up and rigid sole and heel.

Additional Requirements:

  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass governmental security background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Note:  Position not eligible for off-site work.

SALARY: DOE, MAX @ $62K, full time, Monday through Friday
