Bollywood Professor & Author to Give Guest Lecture On New Media

On Wednesday, May 7th, Professor Anustup Basu will visit Portland State University for a free, public lecture entitled, “Bollywood: Hindi Popular Cinema in the Age of Globalization and New Media.” In conjunction with Professor Amy Borden’s Film History III (1968-Present) class, offered by the School of Theatre + Film, the event will begin at 4 p.m. in the third-floor of Lincoln Hall’s stunning new glass tower (LH 355).


Professor Basu teaches at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he is an Associate Professor of English. As the author of Bollywood in the Age of New Media: The Geo-televisual Aesthetic (2010) and co-editor of Figurations in Indian Film (2013) he is a leading thinker on classic and contemporary Indian cinema, with essays appearing in such journals as Critical Quarterly and boundary 2.
