Van Jones brings his brand of environmental justice to PSU

On October 28, CNN commentator Van Jones will take on issues of social justice, the green economy, and the environment in a keynote talk at Portland State University. Tickets are free for all PSU faculty, staff, and students.

Van Jones is an attorney, civil rights activist, and advocate for a green economy, viewing so-called green jobs as a tangible method to escape poverty and link social, economic, and environmental sustainability. His work caught the attention of President Barrack Obama who in early 2009 appointed Jones to be the Special Advisor for Green Jobs for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

PSU faculty to lead international research on cities & extreme weather

PSU faculty are part of an international research project to study how urban areas can be more resilient to increasingly common extreme weather events. Portland will be one of nine cities in the Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network, a five-year project funded by $12 million from the National Science Foundation.

PSU Salmon Safe Ceremony

PSU’s campus is Salmon-Safe Certified

PSU’s 47-acre campus has been recertified under the Salmon-Safe program for protection of urban water quality and habitat. The Salmon-Safe certification recognizes PSU’s efforts to restore an ecologically functional urban landscape while protecting downstream water quality in the nearby Willamette River through actions on campus.
