Notes from the Field: Driving Wedges into Cedar

David Lewis Presentation May 20_2015

Driving Wedges into Cedar

Presented by David G. Lewis, Ph.D.
Oregon State University, Oregon Heritage Commission, Chinook, Santiam Kalapuya, Yoncalla, Takelma
This talk will address the challenges of a Native person becoming a Tribal anthropologist, at the university, and at one’s tribe. Over the past 15 years I have engaged in many discussions about the legitimacy of native people in higher
education with colleagues and native students at the university, and at my tribe. This presentation will address identity, politics and power issues that are part of having a PhD in anthropology in a native community.
Wednesday, May 20th 4:00pm,
Smith Memorial Student Union 333
Free & Open to Public
